The summer of evening walks

This summer has been full of evening walks for our family, and I have enjoyed it so much! We started going just a few weeks after Gianna was born, and we have managed to go nearly every evening since then. We had looked into getting a double stroller, but in the end decided to wait on it. So Brant has just been holding Gianna while Nita rides in our one stroller and Eden of course walks. We found that it was a very good way to pass the evening with a newborn baby. Our newborns always seem to have a fussy time in the evenings, but Gianna hasn't fussed much at all because of our walks! She's just now to the point that she wants to be awake for most if not all of the walk time, so we were just talking tonight about perhaps getting another cheap stroller. Maybe we should just get a double one finally.

Tonight as we headed out, we came across a number of people making small fires along the sides of the alleys/roads we go along. There were also other piles of ashes from previous fires. We have seen fires like this before, but never so many all at once! The people were burning fake money papers. They are very thin papers that burn big and fast. There were vendors out along the way selling bundles of these papers too, so Brant asked one of them what it was for. She told him it's for the lunar calendar day "7-15" - the 7th month, 15th day. That's actually tomorrow, and it's a full moon then. It's Chinese ghost festival day! Here's an article about it. We thought it very fitting that we heard cats meowing loudly tonight after we got back from our walk!
